US food recall numbers and costs nearly doubled since 2002

Since 2002, the number of food products recalled has nearly doubled – and so have the costs of recalling these foods.

A recent report by reinsurance company Swiss Re has revealed that in approximately half of these cases, the cost of recalling the product was US $10 million or more, with some reaching as high as $100 million.
