Federal Parliament’s Economics Committee to investigate food certification practices

The Senate has voted forward a motion to investigate food certification schemes such as Halal certification, in an effort to “get the facts on the table”.

South Australian Liberal Senator Cory Bernadi spearheaded the motion, and has historically been fiercely critical of Halal certification.

The inquiry will run until November, and will investigate organic foods and kosher certification, not solely halal.
